Olympics 2016 Part 2

When I look at the news around the world, I simply see posts by uneducated people.

I’ll highlight the amount of rubbish being spread.

Bangkok Post: “Qatar’s population is 500,000, this event is too big for them.” – That’s obviously written by someone who didn’t even bother to WIKI the facts. Qatar’s population is 1.4 million. The Asian Games was the most successfull in history!

Chicago Post: “oil money is the only reason to entertain the idea of an Olympics in this small, overheated country”. – Racism from lovely America? I guess it IS news by one of the bidding cities. Qatar is indeed rich yes, but that’s not the reason people we’ll be voted in. Plus if the Olympics happen, it’ll happen closer to October, which is the SAME TIME that the US did it during one of their Olympic events.

NBCOlympics.com: “Doha says it stands ready to welcome the world. But Qatar has never sent a female athlete to compete at the Olympics. Their population isn’t even a million.” – Obviously they didn’t do their research either. Qatar’s most famous Archer is a woman ‘for example’. There hasn’t been many women in the Olympics in general because none of them made the cut athletically!

BBC: “Doha has certainly put the dope cheat among the stool pigeons. The nation of Qatar should be considered tiny (pop. one million) by Olympic standards but incredibly wealthy (pop. one million rich property investors, oil magnates, playboys…).” – Again with the population mistake, however again with the lovely stereotype which clearly shows that news channels clearly don’t do their research. They’ve decided who they want to win and just go for it. Perhaps Qatar should start bribing these people or giving out impossible promises as others did.
If anyone deserves it, it’s Rio if not Doha. The US has had it many times and the olympics has a deeper meaning to it. Greed isn’t it.

Everyone who reads this. Qatar is a country with hopes and dreams. Don’t be like the rest of those ignorant, racist, and idiotic people who use stereotypes to justify reasoning. Use logic.

I remember when my father visited here prior to the Asian Games. He looked around and said that this was a country which should hold the Asian Games because it could actually afford it. He has a point. Whereas other countries have to take on debt to bankroll Games they couldn’t afford, Qatar has surplus revenue which could pay fr the Games without making the live of its population more difficult.

Freedom of Expression

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the Qatari Government is a signatory of states: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any medias and regardless of any frontiers.

The Emiri Decision Number 86 of the year 2007 on the establishment of the Doha Free Information Centre marked yet another step towards establishing a State of rights and freedom of speech. The decision stipulated that the Centre be a non-profit organization, headquartered in Doha City, and have the authority to establish other affiliated centres inside and outside Qatar. It is worth mentioning that His Highness the Emir issued a decision in 1998 annulling the ministry of information, giving birth to a new era of freedom of speech where censorship was removed from local media.
