Akihabara Day

I got up and it was time to do something on the first day. I just wanted to lay in the bed because I was extremely tired to be honest.

Where shall I go? Akihabara! It was a bit scary because there were some idiots killing some people there the other day.

I saw a nice little ice cream shop took a picture of it. While walking through the tunnel and I started to cough and sneeze. It seems that the old guy who was sitting next to me on the plane coughing gave me what he had. I ignored it.

I spotted a mobile phone shop; I enjoy looking at the latest technology so went in. Their phones are quite large. I think that Qatari’s wouldn’t like them that much because they like thin and small mobiles. These ones all had swively screens and television built it. Did you guys know that Qatar is the first country in the middle east to support Digital Television on mobiles? Yep.

After walking around a bit, a friend gave me a call and told me he was nearby and asked if he could meet me. I decided that I needed some medicine so I searched for a pharmacy. After a bit of hunting I finally managed to find one. I bought some medicine, passed by McDonalds to get a softcream and also went to Muji where I bought a soft cushion. I then went to a spot near the metro where I stood around a bit until he arrived.

We talked about different things and then it turned out he worked for PWC. He’s one of those guys that’s very intelligent. He does have two degrees and a Masters after all. We then went to a game shop and played a few games. I won…. I don’t like losing… :p

Shingo mentioned that he wanted to buy a video camera. He actually wanted to buy a similar one to the one that I was interested in so we headed off to a huge shop called Yodabashi camera and looked at different models. Poor Shingo went out of his way to try and assist me. We ended up staying there for hours until I finally made the right decision.

After getting a great discount and deciding to buy it, I was told that the colour I wanted was finished. However they had another branch of Yodabashi camera in Shinjuku. I promised my friend Nick that I’d pick one up for him too so I decided to head off. After entering the Shinjuku branch. After a bit more talking, I managed to get an even BIGGER discount. (Arigatou)

I was so happy with that because it equalled one of the memory cards being free.

Since I was a bit hungry, I headed off to this Italian eatery. After finishing, I walked down this alley way called Mozaic street. However everything was already closed so after walking all the way around, I decided to head back because it was getting late.

Time to sink into my pillow again.

Freedom of Expression

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the Qatari Government is a signatory of states: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any medias and regardless of any frontiers.

The Emiri Decision Number 86 of the year 2007 on the establishment of the Doha Free Information Centre marked yet another step towards establishing a State of rights and freedom of speech. The decision stipulated that the Centre be a non-profit organization, headquartered in Doha City, and have the authority to establish other affiliated centres inside and outside Qatar. It is worth mentioning that His Highness the Emir issued a decision in 1998 annulling the ministry of information, giving birth to a new era of freedom of speech where censorship was removed from local media.
