Qatari Murdered in UK

This is the type of news that usually get’s the backpage of British press. To be honest, I don’t even know if it’s making the news. Give me a second to go check Sky news *runs off for a moment*
Alright I’m back. It took a bit of digging on the website, the news is there but you’ll have to search for it. To be honest, I’m reading it and it looks very similar to The Peninsula’s article. In fact, I think The Peninsula may have borrowed a bit from it… tsk tsk.
This poor boy was ganged up on, beaten up, and murdered just because he was an Arab. Here is the country that we’re supposed to emulate. Qatari’s travel to England with great honour and strive to acheive when they travel to the UK. It brings me back to my memory with my Grandmother, God rest her soul, when I was just leaving to the UK. After the many exams conducted by the government to make sure that I was ‘worthy’ enough to be sent abroad to study, it was time for me to leave. My grandmother woke up in the early morning, prepared breakfast and I sat with her. She explained how proud she was of me and how she always knew that I’d be the one to lead the family into the future.
As I walked to the door to go to the airport, she stood there with tears in her eyes. She said she had never been more prouder in her life. To be sent abroad is a very BIG thing in Qatar.
When I arrived in the UK, my first obstacle was the airport. The staff there were rude, they treated me like dirt and finally let me through. When I arrived at University, I found out soon enough that the staff didn’t take too kindly to Arabs or at least they didn’t treat me as nice as they treated Europeans and to be honest, I don’t even look very Arabic. I was usually given an appointment to discuss something with my professor which would always be rescheduled indefinately, or they’d miss meetings if I managed to finally speak to the proffessor directly. I ended up transfering to another uni because I couldn’t handle the racism. So did many of my Chinese and Turkish friends.
I’m thankfull to say that my second uni was fantastic. I’d travel to London now and then and I’d meet some very friendly people, however once they ask where you’re from and you say Qatar they say “oh like Saudi?”. “No not like Saudi, it’s ANOTHER COUNTRY”. They’ll treat you very differently.
Going back to this poor boy. He was 16 and trying to study English. He was only there for 5 weeks before being attacked.
I really hope that the UK government finds whomever did this and brings justice. I hope that the Qatar government will follow this up.
*sighs* our world… is a sad place…

First of all, look at your user name. You’ve already stereotyped and decided what your opinion was BEFORE even bothering to give anyone a chance.
If you did in fact visit ILQ before you would see that I have an in depth role in trying to make Qatar a better place.
Have you seen the ILQ charity which was formed to help out labourers? We go on monthly runs to help out in whatever way we can. Where were you? Sitting at home?
Did you know that ILQ and many Qataries participated and assisted when the Labour camp burned down? Where were you?
Did you know that I am working hard to bring more rights to expats and blue collar workers with the Human Rights Authority (most of which are Qataries?) What are you doing besides complaining?
Use the mind that you were born with. Al Majed’s death DID wake a lot of people up, and so it’s with his death that you are supposed to generate a positive outcome rather than moaning.
Oh and I guess the 300 companies punished by the Qatari authorities for not paying employees on time doesn’t count? The government creating stricter guidelines on companies who ‘pass out’ maids doesn’t count? The Indian nationals who exploit their OWN people and get them to pay 1 years salary to be sent to Qatar aren’t to blame?
So don’t go putting us all in the same boat, or else you’re just as bad as the racist who killed Al Majed.

@hate_qatar,
1) A jail is not supposed to be a luxury apartment. The jail system is flawed in ANY country.
2) If you think HR is BS, how about we do nothing? Is that better? To try and do something is better than nothing. Do something yourself! Fight for rights and make a positive change rather than complaining.
3) I am working on making the law MORE transparant so people know their rights for people like you. Sadly it seems that many cynical people like you don’t deserve it. Prove me wrong!
4) ‘Big’ people exist everywhere, it’s not a ‘Qatari’ thing.
5) If you know the good things that ILQ does, then why make such a post to ME in the first place?
6) Make a difference! Use all your built up frustrations to change what’s bad and promote whats good.
I’m sorry but I have to edit your posts to remove bad words.

hi.. reading on the comments i would say, both have their own respective opinions. objectively, as a foreigner(been here in qatar for one month, searching for greener pasteurs…hope to find one soon, inshaallah),and as an observer, i would state that in every country we visit there are always pros and cons, cant be neither, but to hear a news as tragic as what happened to this young boy, its really pitiful. im half asian half arab,filipino-tunisian,to be specific and there were times when ive been subjected to discrimination just because my features dont exactly match to asian.discrimination does exist, but lets hope that incidence such as this, could bring about change—make things better, after all iv always believed that small steps can lead to giant leaps and maybe in time we can all be equal.
