I hate the Qtel Thomson router

TG585v7One of the things I hate about Qtel’s ADSL is the fact that they give you the most crappiest router in the world. When I first saw it I was pretty happy at the fact that it matched my Apple stuff. White and grey. Nice.

Sadly, it’s just a pretty face! It keeps disconnecting and reconnecting whenever it feels like it. NO, it’s not limited to my router. The office router had the same issue (was fine after I replaced it with a Netgear), my father’s has the same problem, my cousin has the same problem. I love my 8mb connection, but what’s the use of a great a connection when you keep getting kicked off of it!

QTEL GIVE US BETTER ROUTERS!!

    Hey Mr. Q,

    We successfully solved this, but it just requires… another router.

    The Thompson 585 v7 ADSL router has some overheating problems with the wireless. I turned the wireless off and used a second router as a wireless bridge. You could also just turn the wireless off and use a wireless bridge, it would be easier and require less configuration.

    It’s totally solved our resetting problems.

    In other news, Qtel was having some issues with their blocking software, I couldn’t access facebook for a month, del.icio.us and the LA Times would load without their stylesheet.

    Mr.Q I couldn’t agree more!! Most annoying to be in the middle of something and have your ADSL take a break on you.

    (Even when I have a mixed setup of 3-Com, Linksys, Netgear….)

    Hi Brett, We have the same problem with the Thomson router. We do have a second router but not sure how to set this up as a bridge. Could you please explain, as simply as possibly please, how we would do this. Really getting frustrated with this problem, it only seems to maintain the connection for about 5 mins at any one time and we don’t seem to be able to get any help from Qtel

    hi Q. i am in qatar. now i facing intenet issue. i mean. cut angian connect. some time i could not get voice chating .exp:skypy. still now i facing this problem. i changed router i put Lynksys but smae.then i called 2 customercare. they send one service guy. he chaiged main box. nad he said the problem was erth.i though i will solved. but still now also is same problem. and verry slow.can you help me.and give me a good answer.

    if it’s to do with internet speed, it’s nothing to do with the router, it’s a problem with the exchange line from Qtel.

    i heat qtel route. in my flat i was ucing thomson router but i fedup..bcos. every ime it is disconnect and reconnect again.. achually i not useing more than 4 hours.. but still the saim problem . last i call 2 customer care . they send one service guy.who told it is line issue.and he fixe. but after tow days we facing same issue. then whe caal agian to qtel customer care.this time they tell me it is a swich issue. so you should change swicth.ok i tell them if this swicth issue chang it now.this cost is 180 QR.but stil now also i facing this issue.i changed router now it is better than Thomson router. but after evening ve faicing same.. it is verry slow.i am using skype chating with my family.. but i could not chating even 10 minute.what i do? how i solve this problem.if u can tell good solution as soon as possible.i am happy.. other ways i will dissconnect this connection.. and take new connection or voda connection.i hope u can tell a good answer for me.. thanks

    Heh, apparently everybody is having such problems with this router. I installed it a couple of days ago and I feel that I’m in hell, heck even worse..
    The worst problem that I’m having so far is continuous DC’s no matter what settings I’m using or what kind of connection it is, or even how many users are connected, just all the sudden without any introductions a DC would happen and the funny thing is when I got to speedtouch.lan it would say ‘Connected’.

    Btw, there’s a solution to DC’ing (DisConnecting) whichi is a restart, not from the power button, but from Http://speedtouch.lan go to ‘Thomson Gateway’ tap and from ‘pick up a task’ panel choose ‘Restart’. It will take some time, but the fix is guranteed in most cases.

    Thomson TG585 v7 is not a good router and the firmware version 8224 contain bugs. Right now I am using it as accent point only together with linksys wrt54g as my adsl line to QTEL. It works fine :-)

    I upgraded the firmware for TG585v7 because it kept on resetting. the Internet is not ok but the problem i lost the setting for Internet TV. Do you have a fix for this? qtel customer service is a pain..

    I hate this friggin router, is there a possibility i can change it to another one? and will changing it to another one solve all the problems I’m having? such as constant DC’s and slow connection? i HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT! please help! and where can i buy another router and which do you recommend!

    yes indeed, you can buy any wireless router and change over. Just ask Qtel for the settings.
