So it’s not a huge place but it definately has style. Imagine a twist between traditional Qatar infused with old China. That’s the image that Soy portrayed with their version of China town. When I mentioned it to a couple of people, they didn’t even know it existed! It DOES and it’s right opposite of Haagen Dazs. To get to it you have to go through a small alleyway. They’ve got Karaoke, Dining rooms, sushi bars, chinese shops, massage and sheesha!

Well as Paperboy on ILQ so rightly mentioned this was covered back in October 2008 and by yours truly however it’s just been making the rounds on the net and had a little blurb on the side column of today’s Gulf Times. (see below)
This project is going to be home to an amazing amount of shops. Who knows, perhaps ILQ will have it’s own little shop there! For now we’ll be happy with the Great Mall of Qatar. Some may argue that it’s too huge or too much of a grand project but if you ask me, I think it’s great to have some more choice of where to go. It’ll develop the Industrial Area nicely and spread out conjestion around Qatar
.
I have to mention one CRUCIAL mistake though in the Gulf Times article. It’s a Qatar newspaper and this is Qatar so they should know that we call the sport FOOTBALL not Soccer! (When I go to the US I’ll gladly call it soccer.)

Just noticed this on their website when booking my ticket but they’ve got something called Qbiz. I’ll add this to the “How to get QMiles Fast!” guide.
Basically if you have a business, you can earn Qmiles on the tickets that your company reserves.
You get Qmiles for the company AND the individual traveling, so that’s double Qmiles which is great.
A nicely written article by Blitz
It’s the credit crisis right now they say. We see it on the tv, we read in in the newspaper, and the garderner sings it while watering the asphault (Apparantly we need to water our roads sometimes). When I think crisis, I imagine people running around with their hands in the air in a total frenzy screaming “Oh my Gooooood!!!!!!”.
Luckily though, that little visual is limited to my imagination. However this next bit of information is far from a dream and is entirely factual.
Money! Yes Money! Are you paying attention now?
Let’s talk about a few ways to save some cash or cash in on some special offers.
CashSave (Money Boomerang) – This is a service launched in Qatar which gives you cash back when you buy stuff at certain stores. To be honest I found this by mistake. They should really advertise on ILQ to get out there! Their method is quite special because it works ON TOP of promotions. So if a store that participates has a discount going on, you’ll still get cashback. To make things simple, if you go LeNotre for example, just give them your CashSave card (which you get by signing up at their site and getting for free), and you’ll be given a cheque with your cashback. It’s up to 20% if I remember correctly. After I signed up on the site, I was sent a book with all the participating stores which was handy.
The Entertainer – You need to buy this book. It’s actually quite a substantial investment. The book costs 200QR, however I guarantee that you’ll get your money back (or your money’s worth) pretty fast. It’s basically a book of coupons where you get special prices or two for one deals. They have restaurants and places from all over the place! Including Johnny Rockets, Golf Club, and Children’s play areas. You can pick up a copy at most places like Jarir, Virgin, Carrefour etc…
Qatar Airways Qmiles – We talked about this before and it still stands. Getting Qmiles is very easy and sometimes it can be lucrative. Why not save up Qmiles and then sell your ticket? Save enough and that’s a cool 2-4k you’ve made. You can get Qmiles on your credit card (QNB), through paying your Qtel bill, on their special offers, or even when you go to certain stores like Nokia.
Airmiles Scratch and Win Offer - This one isn’t long term, it’s only on for March and there’s two weeks to go. To be honest I don’t even know why they call their service Airmiles. I mean yes you can get flights but it’s more of a rewards program. Once you collect miles you can get freebies on electronics, flights, vouchers, gifts, etc… Now the offer is no matter how much you spend, if you’ve got an airmiles card you’ll get a ‘guaranteed to win something’ scratch card. You can win anything from Cinema tickets to Air tickets or even Gold and Vouchers. All you do is log in to your account on the website, type the code on the scratch card and it tells you your prize.
Thanks to Blitz for mentioning this here
ILQ Discounts – ILQ’s always trying to help you get discounts no matter where you go so if you head of to King Koil, Barzan Digital, Lovesac, or Even if you’re unsure if there’s a discount, let them know that you came from iloveqatar.net! Especially at places Link Travel, Fauchon, 51East, Busy Bees Nursury, and Global DJs events.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Al Sharq Village has an awesome promotion for the whole of March.
Some fantastic Sushi from 12:30 pm to 3pm. Eat as MUCH as you want for just 99 QR. It’s awesome! I was just told about this now and I just thought that I had to get in on that action. When I went on my trip to Japan I couldn’t find such a deal!
Yup, it’s now officially opened, but still in beta. A while back ILQ launched it’s classifieds section which actually started to become populated quite fast. We weren’t happy with that and we thought that we could make things look nicer and be even more simple!
If there’s a feature you want to see or find a fault, let us know! There’ll be a few kinks for now but we’ll get on anything spot as soon as possible!
I’m here at the villaggio with my trusty iPhone and I thought it would be move to give a bit of an update as time goes by. There are a huge amount of ILQers running around in search of puzzle pieces. Beleive it or not they’re quite hard to find! Finding a piece gets you a huge bag of goodies if your one of the lucky ones to win a prize in the draw.
They’re not putting them all out at once though so that everyone has a chance of winning one. The mall is packed right now and it’s great seeing so many smiling faces.
Update: 6:03 none of us found anything. People searching on bins, following people with voda hats, and trying to innocently look like they’re searching in general.
6.30 nothing yet. Had a few people ask me if they could join the Ilq search team. Everyone’s welcome.
7.00 one ilqer has found a puzzle piece. These things are very hard to find for 500! Met the CEO walking around. Everytime I see him I always think that he’s got a great positive personality.
7.30 It’s the end! There was a huge crowd and people cheering. It was a great turn out. It would have been nice if more ILQers could have won something, but alas twas not meant to be.
Congratulations everyone!!
