New club in Qatar – Lava

lavaI have to admit, it’s always exciting when a new venue is launched in Qatar. I always wonder if the club is going to be done right. From what I’m hearing so far, it sounds like it’s going to be fantastic. Global DJ’s “Master Jay” is now their resident DJ and he’ll be dishing out some great tunes. He gave me a personal call the other day and invited ILQ over for a bit of a tour and to judge for ourselves.

They’re located at the Intercontinental which is found between the Pearl and Westbay.

As long as they have great service, a great crowd, and great music; ILQ will be a supporter. I’ll post photos with ILQ’s own review soon.

The Red Carpet Photos

I’m one of those guys that always wants things to be better. The Red Carpet event was quite a success but I had envisioned something a bit more grander. Maybe it’s just me :P

Urban Stars at the Qube

The Urban Stars night was fantastic. For one of the first events of it’s kind, it truly did end up being a unique experience for a great number of people. The main people who showed up included DJ Woogie from Shadyville/G-Unit, Scola from Dru Hill, and Horace Brown.

ILQ both participated and sponsored in this event (as well as others mentioned in other posts) and I have to say we all went all out in doing our best to ensuring that people enjoyed their time. I’ll be working on editing a quick video for everyone’s please.

Freedom of Expression

    Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the Qatari Government is a signatory of states: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any medias and regardless of any frontiers.

    The Emiri Decision Number 86 of the year 2007 on the establishment of the Doha Free Information Centre marked yet another step towards establishing a State of rights and freedom of speech. The decision stipulated that the Centre be a non-profit organization, headquartered in Doha City, and have the authority to establish other affiliated centres inside and outside Qatar. It is worth mentioning that His Highness the Emir issued a decision in 1998 annulling the ministry of information, giving birth to a new era of freedom of speech where censorship was removed from local media.
